Poetry with Attitude

A friend has a picture of himself with a baseball cap and immediately he looks like a rap singer.

Then I got to thinking, when I hear rap it's very much poetry with attitude. I don't recall Dr Suess getting so angry with his rhymes. Maybe that was implied and maybe historically the anger faded.

Take Humpty, I'd be very cross. Yet we sung it as if we were tortured. After the TV Playschool version, Humpty lost it's appeal.

The last decade is filled with attitude in lyric. I still prefer the older days when you could say angry things with a nice tune. For example "then you have to spoil it all by saying something stupid like I love you". I can see how this happened.

Boxing Day - vegetation day

No one I know even knows what Boxing day is. Some think its a day to box up the Christmas wrappings, others think its the day to put on boxing gloves.

It should be called vegetation day. We can "veg" which means to do NOTHING at all. Nothing except recover from Christmas.

For some it's recover from too much drinking and celebration. For others, its recover from the depression of listening to endless carols, and getting e-mails from everyone sending a Powerpoint presentation of Mother Theressa...and guilt tripping them into thinking they are saving the environment by not sending you a real card this year.

ME? Boxing day is a day to look at the boxes of stuff I have accumulated, notes, pictures from kids, photos, and ideas floating on my desk.

I've started to scan them and chuck. I'm trying to become a chucker, and not keep so much stuff. It's hard to keep up...a life time of notes!

Urban Village

I'm sick today, the flu, and nothing on TV helped. Not Dr Phil with the episode on child pagents, not the news telling me about the full moon I missed last night. Apparently it was the closest the moon is to earth. Not the police show where they pull up idiot drivers speeding.
But what did do it for me was some global village show. The blond visitor trying to fit into village life. While my head is still clogged, the images of village life tool me to Chile and Samoa all at once.
Funny how most of today I wished to win lotto, or to have a holiday. But I know that it's because I've been feeling run down. Sure I do need a holiday, a chance to recover.
But I also feel grateful for what I have, even though I feel lost at times and that it can feel like swimming a river of mud at times.

Wet nails

Oh dear, sitting still is just not my thing. So getting my nails painted is quite a challenge. The poor woman watched me like a hawk as I kept her busy re-touching my nails.

I know I can't sit still, the Wii told me. Bu now that the paint has set I feel a sense of achievement.

I love being a woman cause we can get all that maintenance stuff done without questions.

Thinking of the year that went...

My grandmother turned 97, she continues to outlive many, including my cousin Alberto, Heath Ledger, and maybe the playboy Heffner if she keeps going the way she is!

We had a long winter, it just felt longer for some reason.

I turned 40 this year. That was a big deal to me, and my husband. Not so for my family whom I continue to have little involvement with.

Found out I have Lupus - far out. Explains alot about why I'd been so unwell. Unfortunantly the journey only begin on another level.

The house has been rendered and concrete slab laid. Garden beds and soil and veggies growing!

Did the cook off this year!

Worked teaching Spanish and researching.

Now that I think about it.... not a bad year I spose!
